Birat Medical College

International students

Students from outside Nepal can study MBBS and MD/MS at Birat Medical College on seats the Medical Education Commission sets aside for foreign nationals, with all teaching in English.

Seats for foreign students

  • MBBS: 43 of the college’s 130 seats were allotted to foreign students in the 2026 intake.
  • MD/MS: 5 foreign seats in the 2026 intake, one each in Anaesthesiology, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Radiodiagnosis.

The Medical Education Commission (MEC) sets the number of seats for each intake. Foreign seats that are not filled pass to Nepali paying students.

Bachelor programmes (MBBS)

You need Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and at least 50% aggregate marks or a CGPA of 2.4. Foreign candidates then apply through MEC in one of two ways:

  • Sub-category I: sit MECEE-BL. Nepal’s entrance examination is 200 multiple-choice questions in 3 hours. Candidates at or above the 50th percentile make the merit list, and they choose seats first.
  • Sub-category II: your own national entrance result. Without sitting MECEE-BL, you can apply on a result at or above the 50th percentile (or 50% marks) in your country’s national entrance examination, such as NEET for Indian students. You choose from the seats left after sub-category I.

Apply online at entrance.mec.gov.np, selecting “Foreign” as your nationality. You will need a passport (Indian students may use an e-Aadhaar card), a recent passport-size photo, your scanned signature and your Grade 12 transcript. Bring the original documents when you enrol.

Postgraduate programmes (MD/MS)

Foreign candidates sit MECEE-PG and need at least 50% marks. Eligibility, including the clinical experience some specialties require, is set out on each MD/MS programme page.

Fees

  • MBBS for Indian students: ₹78,44,000 for the 2025–26 intake, including hostel and mess. See MBBS in Nepal for Indian students.
  • MD/MS: foreign nationals pay 1.6 times MEC’s fee ceilings. See approved seats and fees.
  • Other nationalities: please contact the admission office for the current fee structure.

Visas

Indian citizens do not need a visa for Nepal. Students of other nationalities need a Nepali visa for study. Check the current requirements with Nepal’s Department of Immigration before you travel.
